I’ve been waiting for that one for a while now! What a blast! Most powerful MR2 ever with the stock JDM-only 245hp 3S-GTE engine, nice LSD, Tein coilovers, cool look... What a car! I would need more seat time in a rev2 to really compare the two, but the turbo felt a bit more responsive... I couldn’t really feel the power difference as I haven’t driven a rev2 in like a month and I drive waaaaay too many cars on a daily basis to remember them all precisely, but it felt AWESOME! It’s 10.30pm here and I’m still exited about it :)

I would highly recommend a SW20 over those... They are SUPER understeery... espeically USDM ones. JDM version, the GT-FOUR RC, are a bit better tuned, but I would really recommend something more fun like a SW20 or.... anything else really... sorry to be a bit of a debbie downer :(

Worst is that a good friend of mine actuallyt DESIGNED that Celica...

Heh, an ST165 was my first car. I have both understeered and oversteered that car into ditches.

But yes, on pavement it doesn’t handle great, they’re really softly sprung. On gravel or snow though, the car is fantastic, it seems to split power around 50/50, so driving in snow is like driving a truck with a super low center of gravity and slightly better weight distribution. Throw big angle at it in the snow and you can hold it for a ridiculous amount of time, though that’s very much a “snowy parking lot” trick and not a “drive it on the street” trick.

Its not a classic driver’s car, but honestly with how rare they are in the U.S., i had a lot of fun owning it. SW gen MR2's aren’t nearly as rare, though this one would obviously be super rare and also come with the engine we never got. All of our 3SGTE’s are weak compared to the much more powerful 3rd and 4th gen engines.

MR2 was always my dream car, I had one shitty 5sfe that threw a rod after a year. So I decided I was going to wait for one of these. $8900 is not bad at all. I need to try and clear some space in my driveway sooner rather than later...

I owned the generation before the one you posted (1st gen) and it definitely understeers on pavement. It feels good in the gravel or snow though if you dont mind pushing something pretty rare in the slippery stuff.

They’re fun to own though if you live in America. Most people don’t give it a second glance, but those that do are super excited and are the type of car guys that actually have something interesting to say.
